Reviews

  1. SCRUMPTIOUS!
    by Pamela Sinel

I loved this book. It’s perfect for anyone, whether you are expecting or not. You can add whey protein to make a post-sports recovery drink out of any of these tasty treats. Also it makes a great shower gift. A must-have for your cookbook repertoire!

  2. Not all that
    by C. Moore

I bought this book to give to a friend’s at her baby shower. I wanted to give a unique gift. I was a tad disappointed. I found the content of the book only so-so and not exactly ‘filled to the brim’ as stated. Also, I didn’t realize how tiny the book was even though it does clearly state the dimensions. Think of it as a stocking stuffer or an item to add to a gift basket. Cute book cover…very festive looking!

  3. So Good!
    by Sarah L

I love this book! The recipes are wonderful and it also makes a great gift for mom-to-be!

  4. A big hit!
    by Anna M. Lear

Bought this for two pregnant ladies and they both LOVED it! All of the mocktails have really cute names too!

  5. A Cool Drink of Water
    by Claudine Wolk

What a great idea! This cute, little, wonderfully colored hardback is just what every pregnant mom needs. Filled with non-alcoholic beverages that look simply fantastic, this book makes it possible for the expecting mom to join in the fun! All the recipes have easy ingredients, look delicious, and were tested by the author herself. Nice work!

  6. too much work!
    by B. Stenson

i was so excited to have some great non-alcoholic drink ideas to enjoy while pregnant (and all my friends are still drinking cosmos and red wine!)…unfortunately, found that most of the drinks required a special shopping trip for ingredient…must easier to stick with seltzer and lime or 7-up and cranberry. oh well, only a few more months to go before I can have the cosmo again!

  7. Great Shower Gift!
    by KKT

I gave this book to my best friend, pregnant with her first child and longing for a salty Texas margarita. She has been aching for fun, fruity drinks that are “mom-friendly” and this gave her lots of options. Plus, in the sea of shower gifts, she knew immediately it was from me!

  8. Surviving Nine Months Sans Wine
    by Erin E. Nichols

I admit it, one of the first things I said to my good friend Meghan when she told me she was going to have a baby (after CONGRATULATIONS, of course) was something along the lines of, “Oh my God! You can’t have a glass of wine with dinner for 9 months!” Obviously my biological clock has not begun any kind of count down yet if what I’m worried about is wine, and not 2 AM feedings, onesies, or college funds so for now I’m quite content to be honorary auntie Erin. But for those of you who are expecting and find yourself feeling a little twinge of longing for a dirty martini from time-to-time than you definitely should add Margarita Mama: Mocktails for Moms-To-Be to your baby shower registry.

Alyssa Gusenoff has compiled a funky cookbook full of non-alcoholic versions of your favorite party time cocktails including sangria, mojitos, and watermelon margaritas. There are even new mocktails with oh-so-cute names like the “Momsicle” (a mixture of pineapple, pear, blueberry, and lime juices served chilled over a glass of sparkling water), “The Perfect Pear of Jeans” (a frothy concoction of blended pear, lemon-lime soda, and lime juice), and the “Nursery Nightcap” (a warm cup of decaffeinated herbal tea with a shot of vanilla syrup).

In addition to all of the great drinks, Margarita Mama is also sprinkled with helpful hints and pregnancy factoids. For instance did you know that basil may help with morning sickness? Me either?! So whip up a Caprese Salad for your girlfriend, rent Baby Boom, and don’t forget to make a mental note to add this title to your “to be gifted” lists. The upcoming mommies in your life will definitely thank you for your thoughtfulness.

  9. Dozens of Non-Alcoholic Drinks--YUM!
    by Janet Boyer

“I’ll never forget that wonderful moment when the concept of the Margarita Mama was born. I was newly pregnant. (Translation: No alcohol allowed!) It was a hot summer day. I was visiting my in-laws at their beach house, and all my summer-trained insticts called out for a real margarita. Everyone else was indulging in a chilly, sprightly, refreshing cocktail. Sure, none of *them* were pregnant–but what about meeeeee?” — From the book

Although this delightful book has expectant Moms (or newbie Moms) in mind, rest assured that Margarita Mama is a GREAT book for ANYONE who enjoys refreshing drinks. In this case, non-alcoholic ones!

This colorful 95-page hardcover book features insight, advice and tons of delicious recipes (I know because I tried some!). Here are but a few of the tasty “mocktails” included in this fun book:

    *Mudlide

    *Watermelon Margarita

    *Pregnant Peach

    *Strawberry Banana Smoothie

    *Perfect Pear of Jeans

    *Basil Pomegranate Lemonade

    *Momsicle

    *Sparkling Cosmopolitan

    *Mimosa

    *Chocolate Crave

    *Raspberry Champagne

    *Mai Tai

    *Sangria

    *Materni-tea

    *Swollen Feet Fizz

    *White Russian

Do those sound scrumptious or WHAT?!

My personal favorite? A drink I’ve made for years and still love: the Sparkling Cape Codder.

If you’re looking for a nice gift book for a Mom-to-be (especially if she lives in a warm climate or somewhere where the summers are HOT), Margarita Mama would make a lovely surprise!

And, like I said, this book does NOT have to be gifted to–or enjoyed by–mommies or mommies-to-be! Anyone who loves delicious, easy-to-make virgin drinks will no doubt find Magarita Mama a welcome addition to their recipe repertoire. (Yikes! Say those last two words real fast! *chuckle*)

    Enjoy!

  10. Great, creative book!
    by NewMomMA

I love this book! The recipes are delicious, and it allows me to enjoy “cocktail hour” with my husband and friends again. My favorite recipe is the mocktail “Mai Tai”. It is such a good imitation of a real Mai Tai, that you barely notice that the alcohol is missing!
