I have stacks of cookbooks that I love and another stack of entertaining and decorating books that I reference.

This exquisite, inexpensive book has all that in one. Love it for myself but am also using it for gifts!

  2. Excerpted from my June 2010 review in The National Barbecue News

Speaking of those summertime parties, here’s a book that is sure to draw interest from anyone who enjoys whiling away a relaxed afternoon or evening on an old-fashioned porch. That’s exactly the concept of “Porch Parties: Cocktail Recipes and Easy Ideas for Outdoor Entertaining” by Denise Gee ($16.95, Chronicle, 144 pp.).

Even though the basics of this book are cocktails, it goes the extra mile in weaving its story of relaxing on the porch. This one will have you swaying back and forth in your chair as if you were in an old rocker as you turn the pages. I really enjoyed the interesting sidebars that accompany each recipe and the author goes into extra detail in setting the scene for these outings with hints on planning, appetizers, décor and more.
